And so, on their favourite stretches especially in the East, Railway cutlets China rubber shock absorption pad Manufacturers were the staple, and an almond soup, as dusk approached.Often on short trips back to Delhi, we’d find the menu dotted with Veg Au Gratin, or a fish orly.Anecdotal tales passed among friends say that the origin of the Railway mutton curry lies in the days of the Frontier Mail when a troubled British officer searched for a midnight snack, and the Indian chefs whipped up a desi dish, amended to his palate by being laden with yoghurt.I discovered the joys of this dish on several joueys across Northe Indian in the late ’70s and ’80s, savouring it with toasted buttered bread amidst a game of ‘tic-tac-toe’ or a round of antakshri. Once while travelling from South till Mumbai, we found ourselves indulging in mutton biryani or railway biryani, as the khansamas on the trail liked to call it, and even kebabs inspired by the shammi kebab, with an accompanying raita. While waiting for the ‘always-late’ train in Jammu, omelette sandwiches were the staple, and pakoras of every vegetable available in the season with green chutney made joueys through Punjab so much more delightful.

Given a choice, I’d still travel by train for the fun of long joueys, food chats, various stations and their culinary offerings but the luxury of time isn’t on my side. So it’s the air jouery that rules the roost but that’s a food jouey for another occasion.Mushroom puffIngredients1 tablespoon olive oil 1 small onion, minced 1 pound assorted wild mushrooms, sliced2 cloves roasted garlic, minced1 cup grated Parmesan cheese1 bunch fresh thyme, leaves stripped and chopped Salt and black pepper to taste½ cup cream 500 gm puff pastry, you could buy a pre-mixMethodPreheat the oven to 200°C. Oil prices is "under our close watch," he said.Earlier this week, a senior finance ministry official had stated that a cut in excise duty was not advisable if the govement was to stick to the path of reducing budgetary deficit. The govement is targeting reducing fiscal deficit to 3.3 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP) in the current fiscal, from 3.5 per cent last fiscal."Every rupee cut of excise on fuel will result in a loss of Rs 13,000 crore to the govement," the official had said. O ring Manufacturers "Fiscal considerations are far higher than one or two rupee price impact on consumers. One or two rupee increase doesnt impact inflation," he had said. The central govement levies Rs 19.48 a litre of excise duty on petrol and Rs 15.33 per litre on diesel. State sales tax or VAT vary from state to state. In Delhi, VAT on petrol is Rs 15.84 and Rs 9.68 a litre on diesel. Pradhan blamed geopolitical reasons for the spike in inteational oil prices, which is getting translated into increases in retail selling price of petrol and diesel.Listing the reasons, he said oil cartel OPEC has agreed to continue with output squeeze while the situation in Venezeula, Iran and Syria were contributing to the spike.

State-owned oil firms, which have been since June last year revising auto fuel prices daily, have kept prices unchanged for the second day today. This after petrol price was hiked by 72 paisa a litre in last 10 days and diesel by a rupee.Petrol in the national capital now costs Rs 74.63 a litre, the highest since September 14, 2013, when rates had hit Rs 76.06. Diesel price at Rs 65.93 is the highest ever. India has the highest retail prices of petrol and diesel among South Asian nations as taxes account for half of the pump rates. The govement had raised excise duty nine times between November 2014 and January 2016 to shore up finances as global oil prices fell, but then cut the tax just once in October last year by Rs 2 a litre.Subsequent to that excise duty reduction, the Centre had asked states to also lower VAT, but just four of them - Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh - reduced rates while others including BJP-ruled ones ignored the call.In all, duty on petrol rate was hiked by Rs 11.77 per litre and that on diesel by 13.47 a litre in those 15 months that helped govements excise mop up more than double to Rs 2,42,000 crore in 2016-17 from Rs 99,000 crore in 2014-15.

Singapore: Oil prices edged lower on Monday as a rising rig count in the United States pointed to higher production, but prices held near more than three-year highs and were on track to rise for a second consecutive month. The oil complex has been driven by supply conces amid prospects of the United States reimposing sanctions on Iran, while OPEC-led producers continue to withhold supplies.Brent crude futures, the inteational benchmark, dipped 39 cents, or 0.5 per cent, to $74.25 a barrel at 0305 GMT. Prices climbed as high as $75.47 last week, levels not seen since November, 2014.US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures were at $67.89 a barrel, down 21 cents, or about 0.3 per cent, from their last settlement."There’s a small drop in trading this moing but volumes are low and there’s not much commitment in the selling. The overall trend is positive and there’s potential for the market to close higher again today," said Michael McCarthy, chief marketing strategist at CMC Markets.

Libya recently doubled output to 600,000 bpd, and Jonathan Barratt, CIO at Sydneys Ayers Alliance, said the country had the capacity to ramp up production further, to as much as 1.2 million bpd.But optimism that oil producers would stick to an agreement made earlier this month to cut output by almost 1.8 million bpd from Jan. 1 reined in the drop in prices. "It is a safe assumption particularly in the early stages that Opec and non-Opec producers will abide by the agreement to curb output," said Ric Spooner, chief market analyst at CMC Markets in Sydney.Seoul: Oil prices rose in the first trading hours of 2017, buoyed by hopes that a deal rubber seal Suppliers between OPEC and non-OPEC members to cut production, which kicked in on Sunday, will be effective in draining the global supply glut.Inteational Brent crude oil prices LCOc1 were trading up 31 cents, or 0.55 per cent, at $57.13 a barrel at 0203 GMT on Tuesday - close to last years high of $57.89 per barrel, hit on December 12. US benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) CLc1 crude oil prices were up 32 cents, or 0.6 percent, at $54.04, not far from last years high of $54.51 reached on December 12.January 1 marked the official start of the deal agreed by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and non-OPEC member countries such as Russia in November last year to reduce output by almost 1.8 million barrels per day.Market watchers said January will serve as an indicator for whether the agreement will stick."Markets will be looking for anecdotal evidence for production cuts," said Ric Spooner, chief market analyst at Sydneys CMC Markets. "The most likely scenario is OPEC and non-OPEC member countries will be committed to the deal, especially in early stages."Libya, one of two OPEC member countries exempt from cuts, increased its production to 685,000 barrels per day (bpd) as of Sunday, up from around 600,000 a day in December, according to an official from the National Oil Corporation (NOC).Elsewhere in OPEC, member country Oman told customers last week that it will cut its crude term allocation volumes by 5 percent in March.

Non-OPEC member Russias oil production in December remained unchanged at 11.21 million bpd, but it was preparing to cut output by 300,000 bpd in the first half of 2017 in its contribution to the production cut accord.Young people down the ages have always looked for inspiration and I was no different. One such inspiration was Swami Vivekanand. I was fascinated by his story: How he came from an aristocratic family and then went on to become one of the most revered spiritual leaders of his time. Two timelines and addresses stood out in his biography — his 1882 meeting with Ramakrishna Paramahansa in Kolkata which answered his questions and formed his beliefs; and his 1893 visit to Boston to meet professor John Henry Wright of Harvard University, which led to his eventual famous speech at the Parliament of World Religions in Chicago.
